Case Study:
A. "Sergie" - The Surgical Simulator

A special purpose surgical simulation machine, developed physically represent key elements of spinal surgery. Accelerating the R&D of implant and instrument NPDs in a non-clinical setting, this machine was designed and built for Axis Spine Technologies by WoollenED.

Sergie aims to:

1) “Fail and fail fast!” - Facilitate non-clinical (away from theatre) explorations of implant and/or instrument failure modes.

2) Provide a non-clinical proving ground for gaining surgeon-product confidence and feedback.

Was delivered with an office-based Risk Assessment, including:

• Risk Matrix & Log

• Training Manual

• Maintenance Schedule

And provides a portable office-based operating theatre with:

a) Compressive Load Control: Adjustable, accurate & repeatable.

b) Spinal Specimens: Anatomically representative 3D prints.

c) Flexi-Mount Bed: Aluminium extrusion operating table.

d) Future Proofing: Patch-panel blanking plates and plenty of room for future upgrades.
